What is a good portable power station to buy for a sailboat?

Updated: Aug 19, 2023

When shopping for a power bank for a sailboat, it's important to consider the following factors:

  1. Capacity: The power capacity of the station should be sufficient to meet your needs. Consider the wattage of the devices you plan to power and choose a power station with enough capacity to handle them.

  2. Output ports: Look for a power station with a variety of output ports, including AC outlets, DC outlets, and USB ports, to ensure compatibility with a wide range of devices.

  3. Charging options: Consider how the power station can be charged, whether through solar panels, an AC adapter, or a 12V car charger.

  4. Portability: Look for a power station that is lightweight and easy to transport, especially if you plan to use it on a boat.

  5. Brand reputation: Consider the brand reputation and customer reviews when making your purchase. Bluetti and Jackery are both reputable brands known for producing high-quality portable power stations (and also the two that I happen to use on my own boat).

There are several good portable power stations that can be used on boats, and the best one for you depends on your specific needs and requirements. Some popular options include:

  • Bluetti AC200P: (the is the one I use on my boat). The Bluetti AC200P is a high-capacity power station that can provide up to 2,000 watts of continuous power. It has multiple output ports, including AC outlets, DC outlets, and USB ports, and can be charged using solar panels or an AC adapter.

  • Goal Zero Yeti 1000: The Goal Zero Yeti 1000 is a versatile power station that can provide up to 1,000 watts of continuous power. It has a variety of output ports, including AC outlets, DC outlets, and USB ports, and can be charged using solar panels, an AC adapter, or a 12V car charger.

  • Jackery Explorer 1000: (I also have one of these!) The Jackery Explorer 1000 is a compact power station that can provide up to 1,000 watts of continuous power. It has a variety of output ports, including AC outlets, DC outlets, and USB ports, and can be charged using solar panels or an AC adapter.

It's also important to ensure that any power station you choose meets safety standards and is appropriate for marine use.
